Another ‘In-House’ service that Shakespeare Engineering can offer to our customers utilising the Bystronic, By Jet Smart tooling.
The major advantage of water jet lies in the fact that the process is cold; there is no ‘heat affected zone’. Likewise, existing thermal processes such as laser or plasma cutting deform the edges of cut composites – and can also create stress, micro fissures and structural changes. Water jet cutting doesn’t exhibit these effects. Additionally, the micro fine water jet not only avoids direct surface pressure on the material but is the most effective way of cutting complex shapes to the highest tolerances.
Regardless of quantity requirements, water jet technology cost-effectively produces components to a consistent quality standard.
A wide variety of materials may be cut by water jet, including Steel, Stainless Steel, Granite, Wood, Aluminium, Plastic, Perspex, Foam, Carbon Fibre, Kevlar and composite materials. Traditionally, composites were cut by diamond saw; however this process is limited to cutting straight lines—water jet cutting can produce complex, intricate shapes.
